When traveling through Saxony or taking a weekend break from Dresden, stay at the Pension Am Kirschberg. This family-run Bannewitz hotel is housed in a 200-year-old building that was once part of the estate of Nöthnitz Castle. Pension Am Kirschberg (Hotel by the cherry tree hill) was named for a nearby cherry orchard, as well as for several sweet cherry trees on the property. The hotel is surrounded by flower gardens, a small duck pond, and a fruit and vegetable garden. Besides the ducks, the resident animals include sheep, rabbits, and chickens. A complete breakfast, featuring fresh bread from the village bakery and eggs from the family’s own hens, is served in the cheerful breakfast room or out on the large terrace in warm weather. The hotel is located on the eastern edge of the village of Bannewitz. It’s within walking distance of Nöthnitz Castle (Schloss Nöthnitz), built in 1630 and recently renovated for use as a local museum and event facilities. The owners of the Pension Am Kirschberg can guide you toward many good hiking destinations, such as the Bismarck Column in Räcknitz, the Poplar of Babisnau, and the Fichteturm tower. Families may enjoy a trip to Remmi-Demmi-Kinderland in the centre of Bannewitz, the biggest indoor playground in Saxony. Pension Am Kirschberg is approx. 7.5 km/4.7 miles south of the Dresden city centre.
