History of CologneThe Romans brought Christianity to Cologne, which became the episcopal see from the fourth century. Episcopal become after its conquest by the Franks, the city receives the relics of the three kings. For them, we built the present cathedral which crowns the city, was begun in 1248 and consecrated in September 1322. The last stone is made in the south tower, in the presence of Emperor William I on 15 October 1880. Under the German Reich, the strong "von Biehler" are erected in large numbers in 1873 by Hans von Biehler Alexis, and the fortress belt Cologne. The Second World War: On 30 May 1942, the allies are performing their first 1 000 Bombers' raid on the city. Cologne then undergoes a first series of destructive raids which leave the city in a state of total ruin. According to General Arthur Harris, it was necessary to break the morale and industrial potential of the enemy with massive strategic bombing. This is the beginning of an offensive three years on major German cities. Only the cathedral remained standing completely. See the full history of Cologne on Wikipedia.
